EPL utilizes state-of-the-art CISCO Enterprise class Routers and Switches within its core network to streamline network management and improve network performance. EPL’s core network infrastructure utilizes a “collapse” network architecture where core Firewall, Intrusion Detection System, Layer 2 Switching and Layer 3 Routing components are moved through the core at 720 gigabits per second to insure “Quality of Service” is maintained. In addition, this “collapse” approach allows EPL to segregate any port or combination of ports within the core for Firewall and Intrusion Detection management without the need for additional hardware or physical network link reengineering. Also, all critical core network components have redundant, processors, power supplies, fans, backplanes and power distribution systems to minimize single point failures within the core.
EPL has selected Tier 1 communication carriers to provide Multiple Protocol Layer Switching (MPLS) and Asynchronous Transfer Method (ATM) technology to support its “converged” network infrastructure utilizing a “managed” router service to monitor, configure and diagnose network related issues. For Internet service, EPL utilizes multiple Internet Services Providers using BGP4 routing for redundancy and improved Internet routing performance. All tier 1 services to the core network are delivered via a fiber connection to a SONAT ring for reliability. All critical network components are powered via an uninterruptible power source (UPS) and backed by an external generator source in the event of severe weather or extended electrical power outage.
EPL utilizes both Public and Private Virtual Private Networks to deliver its services to the core network infrastructure. EPL’s Public based Virtual Private Network is based on industry standard IPSEC 3DES encryption technology to encapsulate all sensitive data traffic between the core network infrastructure and the remote customer site. All customer sites utilize CISCO firewall technology to protect the site and establish an IPSEC 3DES tunnel into EPL’s core network.
